Tips & Workarounds -

Our programs are capable of a solution for just about anything you run into.  Many of our program users have shared these tips and workarounds with us.  If you have a better way to address a problem, we would encourage you to share it with us, and we will share it with other users.  Please use the "Contact Us" form on our website to do this.  Below are some of the most often requested solutions:

Re-stamp Existing Electronic Documents - We make copies of your original documents and always recommend that you save the original documents until you are sure they will never be needed again.  If you find yourself in the position of re-stamping and you use Bates Professional, you can cover an existing stamp with a new one.  In the Graphics folder of the program there are two graphic files, Bates_Label_Blk.jpg and Bates_Label_White.jpg.  If you want to cover the stamp with a white background use the advanced element item "Add Picture" to cover the existing Bates Stamp.  The black picture can be used with a white or light colored font in the same manner.

Stamp Existing Paper Documents - When stamping existing paper documents the Bates Programs requests printer margins from your printer.  The settings are used to determine where the stamp is placed on the document.  At times this places the stamp higher on the paper than desired.  We have addressed this problem in two different ways with Bates Professional version:

1. On the User Options page at the bottom left area of the screen "Ignore Printer Margins" checkbox if checked will cancel the use of printer margins.

2. This workaround may be used with all Bates Paper processing programs.  On the Label Page Position in the top left area of the screen you will notice two buttons "Normal" and "Reverse."  All printers have the ability to print at the top of the page.  To stamp the bottom right of a paper page. Select TL for the position, select the "Reverse" button, place your paper pages in the printer so the bottom of the page feeds first and the pages will come out of the printer with the stamp at the very bottom of the page.

Both of the these workarounds will take a little "trial and error" as all printers are a little different in there setup and paper handling.

Save a Setup that you use often - As an example, lets save the Reverse Setup as described above.  On the Client Information page instead of a Client Name, put in the name of the setup. On the Additional Information page add whatever setup info you want, change the starting number to 0 and the amount to print to 1.  Continue through the job and save to Existing Data.  When you need to process that type of job again: select "Existing Data", highlight the setup you saved, press next, all of your setup will be in place and the starting number will be 1.  If you are processing a one time job, do not resave.  If you are processing a job for a new client, be sure to change the Client Information page, and the job will be saved for that client.
